G-Force is one of the first 3D games of the generation. It’s not Tru3d, or whatever that fancy pants technology is called, it is simply good old fashioned stereoscopic 3D – you know the kind, where you don those super-cool cardboard specs with green and red lenses.
Besides the fact the glasses look like something that you got free with your cereal (it was included in the game price I suppose), I was really excited to give 3D gaming a try. I won’t go too much into the game itself as that will come in a full review shortly, I just want to skim the concept of 3-dimensional gaming, albeit on the cheaper scale compared to what we will be playing in a few years time.
To play in 3D on G-Force, you simply go to Options, then select the Display choice and check the box saying 3D. You can switch between the 2D and 3D at any point by doing this through the ingame Options menu too.
The overall effect I have to say, was slightly disappointing. It was novel and it all worked OK. But that’s just it, it was only “OK”. It does make your main character look more defined on the TV, but it also makes reading on-screen text a nightmare at points.
Despite the somewhat negative comments in the above paragraph, I’m still glad Disney Interative Studios put this feature in, while it isn’t amazing, I think the kids will love it, and on the odd occaision, so will gamer adults like myself.
