No it isn’t you reading it wrong, the title doesn’t make sense. It is in fact a quote from a new Flash teaser put on the Japanese Konami website. The Flash movie displays the Konami logo, which fades and gives way to the image below:
So as you can see, the text below the symbols clearly states: “A NEXT METAL GEAR IS”. This is complete jibberish and the worst attack on a proper English sentence in a long time. The poor English could be attributed to the fact it is on the Japanese Konami website though.
The big thing causing the controversy I mention in the title is the symbols above the text. Gamer blogs around the internet have been wildly speculating to the true meaning of this blatant linkbait. Fanboys are up in arms, with many claiming the green power symbol obviously represents the Xbox 360 and means a Metal Gear Solid is on the way or maybe a port of MGS4. Then there are the tenuous links, such as the “i” looks similar to the “i” in Wii, which i find a bit far-fetched. So there we go, my feeds have all gone crazy and the comments are all the bloody same crap.
Want to know what I think? Patience. Wait for them to tell you. This is blatantly a viral campaign and it’s working well, so well done to Konami.
P.S. The URL structure is MGST so if I had to guess it is most likely the announcement of the expansion for MGS4 as every MGS so far has received an expansion/add-on/spin-off a year or so after the game release. Metal Gear Solid Tactics anyone?
