Many of us already know Call of Duty 5 has been named as “Call of Duty: World at War”. The game is roughly scheduled for release at the end of 2008. Despite this, Call of Duty 6 has been announced as in-production. The 6th title, unnamed at this time, could even make its debut as soon as 2009. This is all according to the Activision CEO, Bobby Kotick.
Kotick has confirmed that “an all-new Call of Duty” will be released in the 2009 calendar year. It is unknown as of yet if the studio behind this instalment will be Infinity Ward, the people behind the hugely successful Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. However Kotick did mention that they were using the “leapfrog studio strategy”, hinting at IW being the developers as Treyarch are already confirmed to be making Call of Duty: World at War.
There have been several rumours, and I stress these as rumours, that CoD6 will be sci-fi-based. The potential for laser rifles and plasma grenades is there. Alternatively, it could regress to world wars one and two. Again.
On a side note, Kotick revealed all this at the same time as announcing $1 billion earnings for Activision-Blizzard. Not a small amount I’m sure you would all agree.
