Copied Games for PS3

Sony’s concerns over games piracy grows as hackers have found a way to run retail (PS3) games from hard drives. Sony has good reason to be concerned as in recent times hackers ran riot with the PSP and enabled gamers to play the latest games using a memory stick. Hackers have pulled off the same trick with the PS3 and are able to run game code using internal and external storage devices. Although this development is some what frightening hackers have only been able to pull off the feat on a development version of the PS3 and not the retail version. The development versions are somewhat different to the typical machines but it will certainly push the hackers another step closer to their goal.

Sony is expected to respond to this recent news by releasing a series of new security updates for the console. This year Sony have taken a strong stance on piracy and even threatened to lock people down from online play all together if they abused the up and coming home software. Apparently, you would have to actually move house to play online again. It’s an interesting concept. Hackers may also be put off by the 25 GB download for each game.
