The guys over at The Sixth Axis have posted information suggesting PS2 software emulation may be coming to PlayStation 3’s lacking the hardware. Since the 60GB PS3 was discontinued, there has been no PS2 support in any of the Sony PlayStation beasts for the Europe regions. I grabbed one of the original 60GB’s within the first couple of weeks from launch back in march ’06.
Those of you who joined the console cycle slightly later, when the 40GB became the main – and significantly cheaper I should add – SKU for PlayStation 3 range, may well have noticed no PlayStation 2 titles will play. This is because Sony scrapped the PS2 emulation hardware as part of reducing the costs, hence the RRP dropping from £425 at launch to £300 less than a year later.
I can honestly say the PS2 games don’t look so nice anymore, especially on HDTV after playing a PS3 game. But if you have a large PS2 collection gathering dust then there is good news, as part of adding support for PS2 SingStar volumes, Sony is also looking at possibly making more “worthwhile” games available via software emulation.
looking around for the best site to get one.
