The company that bought you Wolfenstein 3D and Doom is about to bring you another blockbuster shooter, Enemy Territory: Quake Wars. It has been almost 12 years since we saw the first appearance of Quake and today the franchise is as strong as ever. We are not in entirely new territory as Quake Wars has already been released on PC but we are expecting great things from the notorious shooter.
Quake Wars is somewhat different to other versions of Quake. The game is split into three game modes campaign mode, multiplayer mode and instant action mode. It all sounds very simple but infact developers ID have added a new twist to the game and genre. The campaign mode plays very much like a multiplayer game and you are placed on the front lines of an epic war. You must achieve objectives and set strategies all in the middle of one big war. The action is endless and the pace is furious. We are quite simply gripped by the details behind this one.
As for the multiplayer you can expect the usual type of things, death matches, team based matches, capture the flag etc etc. Essentially the bulk of the game lies in the multiplayer. The maps are not only huge but also very beautiful. The attention to detail appears meticulous and put this baby on 50 inch plasma and you will be blown away. All the test versions and trailers just add to the excitement. There is also some interesting weapons and disguises in multiplayer mode. For example you can pretend to be strogg in order to confuse your enemies.
Of what we have seen this looks like another solid shooter from ID. The gameplay is smooth and the shooting is spot on. We also like the idea behind the campaign mode. All in all it looks great so get your Xbox 360’s and PS3’s ready. Its gonna be a real time burner…
