Gaming Art – Posters, Canvas Prints and Butt-Ugly Busts

I like to stay away from talking just about video games (hey look I said my website…almost) news. I enjoy thinking up articles that could potentially, given visitors actually wanted to comment, stir up a debate. So this time I decided to take a look at the different varieties of video game art there are.

The most common and popular choice of art is a simple poster. Many avid video gamers – and even some non-gamers I am sure – own or have owned at some point a poster with a video game character. Now you can get posters of films based on games, such as Hitman or Doom. This is even becoming popular in reverse, with games based on films, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones Lego posters available.

The next step up from a basic poster is canvas prints, which I believe are a relatively undiscovered market niché. They look smarter and more professional than the glossy paper variations. Canvas prints can come as readymade products or you can perform photo to canvas conversions. I prefer the look of these, just look at this Super Mario (NES-style) one offered by http://www.whoartnow.co.uk/video_games_canvas_range.php (sorry for stealing your image it just shows my point quite well).

If you are a hardcore gamer and swear by a certain game, you could always take a more radical approach. This is more physical art and in some ways represents true style, but I can honestly say I wouldn’t want that locust drone bust in my living room.
