Tim Willits, id Software’s lead designer, has stated that Rage, which is a shoot ‘em up set in an end-of-the-world scenario, has had to have some features modified to fit on the Xbox 360 DVDs.
Willits had the following to say to 1UP:
“The PlayStation 3 has about 25GB. But the Xbox 360 roughly has 6 to 8 GB of data. We’re hoping we can squeeze the game down to two discs for the 360 version.”
This has caused a bit of a stir between fanboys on both sides of the fence, PlayStation 3 followers are claiming it proves the usefulness of Blu-Ray. Meanwhile 360 fans are dismissing the claims, stating that no features were actually removed; instead they were simply changed to suit the size.
Willits specified the changes that were made further on in his talk with 1UP, saying “we originally wanted to have around 5 or 6 smaller wasteland environments but later decided instead to have 2 larger wastelands”.
To some (Sony lovers) these changes were huge and showed the PS3’s dominance, whereas others (Microsoft lovers) continued to counter-claim that the changes were insignificant, possibly even for the better. The latter justify the modification by saying two large wastelands provides a more free-roaming effect to the game.
