We are back in the 1950′s with the Mafia and boy do things look good. Mafia II is shaping up to be one of the hidden gems of the year. There has been so much talk recently about free roaming open world games and Mafia II adds to the line-up of big hitters. Of course in the coming months we will see the release of GTA IV, Just Cause 2 and Mercenaries. So what’s install for Mafia II?
The first thing that hits you with Mafia II is the visuals. The game looks stunning and is certainly up there with the likes of Gran Tourismo and GTA IV. It almost feels like your back in the 50’s smoking a fat cigar and slurping on whiskey. We were lucky enough to a see a preview on a 65 inch tv and we could not believe our eyes. Forget Mafia I or Godfather or any other mob style game. Mafia II is head and shoulders above what has gone before.
The 1950′s of course brings new things. Mafia II features new bigger cities and more importantly faster cars. We all remember the stupidly slow cars in the original. Talk about dull. Luckily this time round games will be able to enjoy the thrill of high octane police chases. These clunky new style cars look like they will be awkward to drive but who cares as long as they go like a bolt out of a bolt action shot gun. So we have new cars and new cities but what else do we get?
Well the good news is there are plenty of additions. New weapons will be introduced to the game. Cleaner and more accurate shooting will be introduced and gamers will be given another finely tuned storyline to play along to. Developers however have decided to move the story on in a new direction as Mafia II is set in a new time period. Gameplay has also been carefully planned out. The level of detail is astounding. It’s actual difficult to break into a car. It takes precision and a steady hand. 2K have essentially tried to make the game more realistic.
Mafia II seems to have certain sleekness to it. It’s not all about being a bad ass and kicking people in to touch. Timing and choice of actions is also intricate to the game. Of course the game will also feature lots of cop killing and running from the law. This adds the extra element needed in the game.
All in all we are very excited by what we have seen and can’t wait to see what the final version plays like. The release date is still something of a blur but we will keep you updated. This maybe the game we all need after playing weeks and weeks of GTA IV. Lets hope they deliver!!
