New PSP and New PS3 Soon

Sony has officially announced a new PlayStation 3 SKU, sporting a 160GB hard drive. This space will help store all the music and videos that should be coming to the European PSN over the next year. Other than the increased storage capacity however, there are no additional changes that Sony has specified.

The newer model will debut at the price of £339.99, which is a little bit more than the current 40GB version, but supposedly comes with around fifty quids worth of stuff. The current 40GB model is to be replaced with the 80GB hardware too, still retailing at £299.99. The new PS3’s are due for release this Halloween, spooky.

The other big hardware-related announcement Sony made at the Leipzig Gamers Convention, was the addition of a new PSP SKU. The new kits are named as the 3000 model range, following on from the current-gen 2000 models and the original 1000 models.

The new 3000 models will feature a built-in microphone, presumable to help push Skype usage on the handheld. Other updates along with the microphone include an upgrade to the screen, which will now be clearer outside and boasts up to double the refresh rate of previous models. One rumour also suggests that improved rechargeable batteries will be included with the newer units, boasting a longer battery life and a lighter weight. The new unit will retail at £149.99 and hits UK and European store shelves on October 15.
