Yesterday I posted an article about Pachter’s prediction of the US sales numbers. His opinion was that the PS3 had just edged out the Xbox 360 for another month. Well now we have the official NPD numbers, so let’s take a look.
- DS: 518.3K
- Wii: 453K
- PSP: 253K
- Xbox 360: 195.2K
- PS3: 185.4K
- PS2: 144.1K
It seems that Pachter was off in regards to the PS3 versus Xbox 360 debate. Microsoft’s console performed on par with Pachter’s 200K unit estimate. However, the PlayStation 3 only managed to get just over 185K units, while this is reasonable it is well below the 225K put forward by Pachter.
So the Xbox 360 wins in August for the US in hardware sales, although I should mention the Wii is continuing its domination, achieving greater sales than the other two put together.
Next we will take a look at software sales. This represents a pretty dire situation for Sony, with only two titles in the top ten, one of which is a PlayStation 2 game. Xbox 360 had a successful month in software sales, with 3 games reaching the top ten. Again the Wii has its usual contenders such as the Wii Play and Wii Fit. The Nintendo DS also managed to make an appearance in the number ten slot with the popular American football game, Madden NFL ’09.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off topic but I had to tell someone!
