PS3 UpdateNot signed into your PS3 since yesterday morning? Then you may not know that the elusive PlayStation 3 2.70 firmware is now available to download.

The file comes in at just over 140MB so expect a bit of a wait. Amongst the changes are improved profile and trophy comparison load times, which now appear much quicker than before.

You can now also text-chat in chatrooms of up to 16 people from the XMB, this includes cross game chat, but not quite the voice chat people were hoping for. The file size limit for message attachments has been increased to 3MB, allowing you to send friends those high-def photos.

I’ll let you view the list for the rest of the changes:

  • 16 people chatrooms (cross game compatible) – You can join up to three rooms at one time
  • Sortable friends list – Sort friends by online status
  • Larger attachments – File size increased from 1MB to 3MB for message attachments
  • Dynamic Normalizer added – Helps prevent dramatic volume changes between music tracks
  • Game internet search – Select the game on the XMB and click “Internet Search” from the menu
  • Internet Copy&Paste – You can now copy text in the browser and paste it into the text input screen
  • Video Store backups – Videos purchased from the PlayStation Video Store can now be backed up to external devices and restored at any time
  • PSP videos on PS3 – Videos purchased for the PSP can be transferred to the PlayStation 3 for playback
  • Trophy optimisation – Trophy comparison and profile screens load up much faster
