There were rumours circling the inter-web last week hinting that the update would be out on the 26th but after failing to make an appearance those rumours were doubted.

Well now we can put those mutterings to rest as the latest Firmware patch has arrived. This brings your PlayStation 3 up to version 2.53. Not a massive jump and as you may have guess, the 0.01 version change does not imply huge changes. However, even though it is a small changelist, the impact is significant for many PS3 users.

The update was focussed on the Flash support in the PS3 web browser. The browser can now playback flash in full screen and supports “live movie (using RTMP format) playability”. All I know is that BBC iplayer now works fine, so I guess that’s what the latter change fixed.
