The last 4 or so weeks have been abysmal for the PlayStation 3. Sales of the console reached a new low of less than 5,000 units. At the same time, Xbox 360 successfully made its mark on the Far Eastern market, achieving constantly higher sales than the PlayStation 3.

This is odd because Sony and Nintendo have always been definite favourites in the past, especially the Sony PlayStation 2. This year the Nintendo Wii has dominated all markets so its huge success is being ignored, instead it is the sales between the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 is focussed on.

Well it seems the Japanese has reverted back to normality, with the PS3 this week managing to sell more units than both the Wii and Xbox 360 combined. Presumably this is due to certain recent game launches, ahem LittleBigPlanet.

The handhelds also continue their reign of dominance. The newest Nintendo DS, the DSi, which features two built-in cameras and larger, easier to see screens, showed a phenomenal success, selling more units than every other console put together. The PSP enjoyed sales more than 10k higher than the PlayStation 3.
