Since it’s inception, along with the launch of the PlayStation 3, the PlayStation Network has changed tremendously. There have been ups and downs, some of which are still going on – where is that European Video Store!? On the whole however, the PSN has been an enjoyable experience and continues to improve, judging by the figures released by Sony regarding the user numbers, it seems a lot of people think so. Sony has announced that over 20,000,000 users have now registered for the free service.
The PSN provides free social networking, voice and video communication, multiplayer/online gaming and access to the playStation Store, which now features over 14,500 items according to Sony, 5,900 of which are films and TV episodes in the US video store. The PlayStation store has sold over US$180 million worth of products since being unveiled, this is spread over 380 million downloaded items.
In Canada we also don’t have the video store. What’s the hold up? I’m probably going to make a rental every week.
