The competition in the open world gaming genre has never been so tough and we have recently seen big hitters such as Assassins Creed enter the market place. The standards are high and the competition is tough so why would developers THQ re-enter the market with a second attempt at Saint Row. Last time round Saint Row achieved moderate success but in reality they were just lucky. They entered the market place at the right time. When THQ released Saint Row there were no real competitors who were offering high end graphics in an open world environment. This time round they have to compete with the almighty GTA IV. Despite this mammoth mountain to climb THQ claim they are quietly confident.
Saint Row 2 takes off from the first. If you remember at the end of the first one your face gets blown to bits by a cleverly placed bomb. This was the work of your former gang members and you had been setup like a wet kipper. At the start of Saint Row 2 you appear in a doctor’s office and have to rebuild your character and body. Once you are back in ass kicking shape you have to build yourself a new gang. The new neighbourhood in Saint Row 2 has three gangs which are competing for turf in the city.

The biggest highlight of the new game is said to be the customisable features. Your character is completely customisable. Everything from your walk to your talk can be changed. You can walk like a pimp and shout out obscenities to any passer by in the street. Women also play a much bigger role in the game. This had not been considered much in previous games but this little addition will get them old grannies and there handbags swinging. We love it. Believe me; some of these women are tough. They have no problem with kicking your ass.
Saint Row 2 will undoubtedly make a small splash in comparison to GTA IV but the game does have some interesting features. The updated multiplayer mode and continued should keep fans happy but we doubt that new comers will chose Saint Row 2 over GTA IV. In our opinion GTA IV remains king.
