In recent news the Guardian reported that a Stranglehold advert has been banned from our tv sets because it glorifies gun crime and violence. The 18+ rated game was cleared by the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre to be shown after 7.30 but numerous complaints were received. One parent complained that her three year old son was able to watch such a graphic advert before the nine o clock watershed.
The advert in question showed drawn out shooting scenes between four men and the voice over stated that ‘Honour is his code. Vengeance is his mission. Violence is his only option’. This was seen as too much by the ASA and they decided that the advert contra veined their code of conduct with regards to violence and cruelty. The advert was later banned for these reasons.
