Trine PSN Price Revealed

Posted by Stefan Crowe On July - 10 - 2009

TrineTrine looked like it was going to take the world by storm. With an amazing twist on 2D gaming with 3D graphics (á la LittleBigPlanet), it had everyone excited.

You may notice how I used past tense in the paragraph above. This is because the price has been revealed on the Official European PlayStation Blog and it is leaving some people a bit stunned. It seems the US will get it for $19.99, fair enough. But it will also cost £19.99 and €19.99 in the UK and Europe respectively.

Correct me if I’m wrong but that seems like slightly dubious conversion rates right there. Granted the pound is weak at the moment. But the dollar isn’t exactly at it’s best either. The UK price is roughly the equivalent of $32.

Still, the game might be worth it. They are touting it as a fully fledged retail title, as opposed to a small quirky downloadable one like the £3.99 ones many of us are used to on the PlayStation Store.

Trine is supposed to hit the PSN before the end of July.

When I saw this game trailer yesterday…I was pumped because this game looks great.

    But $20.00? **** $10 I would have done, $15…Maybe

  2. juttyX2 says:

$20, isnt so bad 4 u guys over the pond, but £20 ( $32 ) is ripping europe off. just like sony do FAR TO OFTEN

  3. commodore says:

Ya, feel bad for you guys over there…Because isn’t the Pound and Euro worth more than the dollar?

  4. zues says:

Yeah, for $20 thats a bit far. $10 would be a buy on day one or farthest would be $14.99 but $20….eeeeh, well see.

  5. B says:

There are 30 hours of gameplay, co-op, and something like 32 trophies including a platinum. $20 sounds like a bargain to me.

  6. orakga says:

    I wouldn’t call $20 a rip-off (although being a non-resellable digitally-distributed title, I’d prefer $10/$15), but 20 Pounds is totally out of whack.

Let me also put it this way…
If I were a European gamer, and wanted to play this with my friend/wife, we’d have to dish out 40 Pounds… for a DOWNLOADABLE (and don’t give me this “retail content” crap). It simply makes no sense to the consumer.

Yes, I know “businesses need to make money”, but overcharging for content is the quickest way NOT to make that money back.

There’s a reason why the secondary market is thriving thesedays; consumers are simply being forced to buy second-hand (NOONE actually PREFERS playing used games).

  7. commonsense says:

WAY expensive… I better wait for another offer like they did with Rag doll Kung fu

  8. percy says:

orakga no you would not “dish out’ 40 pounds you would spend 20 pounds it just so happens that 20 pounds equals 32 dollars. Frozenbyte is a finnish developer so i don’t think they are trying to favor the dollar maybe they just know everbody in america is broke right now and cant pay 32 dollars for a game.

  9. Kanao says:

Percy, at least attempt to understand someone’s logic before calling them wrong. He’s clearly saying it would cost £40 (2 x £20) overall if he wanted to play co-op with a friend / his wife (it sounds like he has two PS3s).

Then again, all he needs to do is download the game on any additional consoles so it’s hardly a problem. £20 for a $20 downloadable game is rather over the top though.

“maybe they just know everbody in america is broke right now and cant pay 32 dollars for a game.”

Oh wow. So the economy is only making life more difficult for Americans?

  10. Kanao says:

“Then again, all he needs to do is download the game on any additional consoles so it’s hardly a problem.”

By that I obviously mean access the user account that’s bought the game on any additional PS3s to download it again. You’re allowed to do it five times for any purchase.

Isn’t it like 30$ on steam? So what are guys complaining about? And YOU CAN BUY IT IN DOLLARS IF YOU LIKE! just make a fake us account and use your credit card it freaking works, this is not steam nor 360.

Yeah i should have been more clear about what i meant the game can be used on multiple ps3’s so you should only need to buy it once. On the second note no the economy isn’t only affecting the USA but i believe they are affected more so by it than other countries. The USA has no real large industry like many countries more and more all the work is being shipped oversea’s and with the loss of the auto industry unemployment rates are sky high and they are forced to borrow huge amounts from other countries with no way to pay it back as of yet other than raise taxes on people who have no jobs. kinda off topic though. The big thing is min wage in UK is 5.52 and in USA depending on state it is about the same so two people one in UK and one in USA would have to work 4 hours to buy this games i know that is just spin but if you want to look at it that way UK min wage is $8.95 which is quite a bit better than the USA

Yada yada yada… Trine is published by Nobilis, not by Sony.
