Microsoft’s flagship Xbox 360 console, the premium, is getting an upgrade this week. The premium is by far the most popular Xbox 360 SKU, outselling the others significantly. It sports a 20GB hard disk drive (HDD), which just isn’t enough anymore. Remember the days when no-one had even heard of a gigabyte? Well now anything less than 60 gigabytes just doesn’t seem to cut it now.
The premium is receiving a HDD upgrade, with the new one featuring 60GB of space. Coincidentally, that is the same amount of space offered by the Sony PlayStation 3’s most popular SKU, It must be a popular number. Maybe the Wii will follow suit, although thats unlikely, as the Wii will never need that much storage.
The following is a quote from Neil Thompson, Senior Regional Director of the Entertainment and Devices Division (breathe), regarding the new hadware:
No one device offers the depth and breadth of entertainment that Xbox 360 can deliver and we know consumers need increasingly more and more space to store the amazing digital entertainment content we provide. Now the Xbox 360 has triple the space to house all your entertainment needs at no extra cost.
There doesn’t appear to be any other modifications to the package other than the new HDD, so as good as it is, it’s nothing exciting.
