An analyst from Electronic Entertainment Design and Research, Jesse Divnich, has made claims that the Xbox 360 is going to beat the PlayStation 3 in the US this holiday.
Divnich said “the PS3 will not only have the highest price point, but also the smallest software library, weaker line-up of exclusive titles (compared to Xbox 360’s Gears of War 2 and Fable 2), and a less popular online network”
Some of these points are true, the PSN is slightly woeful at times but considering the service is free, I believe it very good value. Even so, the Xbox Live is still considerably better in many areas. Another point that goes to Microsoft is the amount software backing the platform. The PS3 has much less titles than the Xbox 360 whether they are high rated or not.
I have to disagree with the “weaker line-up of exclusive titles” comment. The PlayStation 3 has an offering of exclusives that beats the Xbox’s for this year. Yes, Gears of War 2 is sure to be an amazing title and Fable was an OK (not great) game. But the PS3 has Resistance 2, LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM, Motor Storm 2, WipEout HD (not for me but many want it) and the Home service, which is launching this Christmas too.
The major tipping point for Xbox 360 this Christmas will be the price tag, as it offers the cheapest next-generation console to the market. The PlayStation 3 is, and appears to be staying, the most expensive console.
